JOB DESCRIPTION

Prepare, analyze, and interpret accounting records for the purpose of giving advice or preparing statements. Installing or advising on systems of recording costs or other financial and budgetary data.

Accountants and auditors help to ensure that firms are run efficiently, public records kept accurately, and taxes paid properly and on time. They perform these vital functions by offering a wide array of business and accounting services to their clients, including public, management, and government accounting, and internal auditing.

The fundamental tasks of the occupation are preparing, analyzing, and verifying financial documents in order to provide information to clients. Public accountants perform a broad range of tasks for corporate, government, nonprofit or individual clients. Management accountants record and analyze the financial information of the companies for which they work, and may perform other tasks such as budgeting, cost accounting and asset management. Government accountants work in the public sector, assuring that revenues are received and expenditures made in accordance with laws
and regulations. They may also serve as Internal Revenue agents or investigators and bank examiners. Internal auditors verify the accuracy of their organization’s records and that internal controls are adequate to protect against fraud and waste.
