JOB DESCRIPTION

Analyze business, scientific, and technical problems for application to electronic data processing systems and convert business procedures into a programmable form for computer-assisted solutions.

SKILLS AND APTITUDES NEEDED

  • Aptitude for analytical work
  • Ability to think logically and pay close attention to detail
  • Ability to concentrate and deal with a number of tasks simultaneously
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Broad knowledge of and experience with computer systems and technologies
  • Ability to communicate with computer personnel as well as staff with no computer background

Computer systems analysts coordinate with management, network and database administrators, and computer users to determine the requirements to meet the information needs of the organization. They outline the flow of information within the company for enterprise resource planning and other business intelligence systems. They plan and develop new computer systems or devise ways to apply existing systems’ resources to additional operations.

Analysts use techniques such as structured analysis, data modeling, information engineering, mathematical model building, sampling, and cost accounting to plan systems. Many analysts are involved with networking— connecting all of their organization’s computers internally and/or externally for tasks such as e-mail or the World Wide Web.
